Kilobits per second This term often seen as Kbps is used by Internet Service Providers to distinguish the amount of bandwidth available on any given connection. For instance High-speed DSL Providers will advertise terms such as 768 Kbps download speeds. Given that there are 8bits for every byte that maximum you will receive on a 768 Kbps should average around 96 KBps (Kilobytes per second). This should not be confused with KBps which is (Kilobytes per second) and identifies a much higher connection speed.
